Robot Babies Are Never Okay

Meet Diego-San, a creepy robot baby that was just “born” in Japan. It was invented by the equally creepy guy on the right. According to Geekologie:

The robot is supposed to model a 1 year old baby and the purpose is to conduct research on how a baby’s brain develops. Diego-san’s face has about 20 moving parts so that it can communicate with facial expression without being able to talk. It is 130cm tall, weighs 30kg and can stand up from a chair on its own. It can hold a water bottle with its hand. It has a high resolution camera and 6 axis acceleration sensor built in to detect movement. Unfortunately it doesn’t say why the head has to be so big. Female researchers contributed to the design and coordination – thus the photo of woman hugging Diego-san.

No word on why the baby has that giant, freakish head. At least it’s a bigger target FOR BULLETS. Somebody put that thing out of its misery – pronto.

Mariah Carey won the Breakthrough Actress award for her role in Precious at last night’s Palm Springs International Film Festival. There was one tiny problem: GIRLFRIEND WAS TOTALLY FUCKED UP, and was in no condition to be on stage accepting an award. She slurred her way through the entire acceptance speech, and it was a total trainwreck to watch. Footage below:

A commenter named Wakeup804 at Huffington Post said it best: “I don’t fault her for getting her buzz on, we are adults. I fault her for not telling someone she wasn’t in any condition to accept an award. That is like getting drunk and calling people, after a certain age, you just look pitiful.”

I love freebies… especially from Apple, where everything is so grossly overpriced. This year, they’re running The 12 Days Of Christmas promotion, and are giving away one free iTunes download per day. On day 1 they gave away a Snow Patrol track, and on day 3 they offered a Trivial Pursuit game for the iPhone.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the promotion, until today… the 6th day of Christmas, when iTunes gave to me…

LESBIAN VAMPIRE KILLERS? The phrase “not even if you paid me” immediately comes to mind. So does the phrase “worst movie ever made.”

Thanks for nothing, Apple. If you really wanted to do the world a favor, you could have fixed iTunes so it doesn’t crash Windows computers every 5 minutes.
