Just thought I’d add a TL;DR comment.

Seasons 1 and 2 were absolutely brilliant. Season 3 is a complete waste of time.

No, it’s true Season 3 really sucks. I’ve watched a bit past episode 5 (episode 9 actually) and it only gets worse, more boring and stupid.

Seasons 1 and 2 were so great but now the vision of the show is somehow lost and we are left with some shallow and contrived soap opera. The characters are just former shells of themselves.

I don’t even think I will finish watching season 3 and I won’t even consider season 4 unless all the crappy writers who ruined this awesome show are kicked off.

I am optimistic about how next season could go. The culture change in America from Kennedy assassination in late 1963 to the Beatles invasion in early 1964 was remarkable.

I know those Kennedy years defines the whole Mad Men ambiance, but there is not a single year of the 60’s that isn’t interesting, entertaining and unique.

I hope they get it right.

I agree about the unnecessarily weird plot turns and lack of follow through on older plot threads. (the same thing happened with the Sopranos from one season to next, or one writer to next, or director, etc.) The “no one including me knew i was pregnant and then i had to give away my baby” story (huh?) is worthless.

But there is one thing that bugs me and probably only me. – on Madmen if someone answers a question like: “did you go to the store?”, normal people answer “yes”, “no”, or “yeah”, or whatever.

madmen dialogue answer is always: “i DID!”, emphasis on the did.
did you sign the contract? i DID!
did you eat dinner? i DID!
has my secretary called you? she DID!

god it is so unnatural. Hey i was alive in 1963 and we actually used the words YES and NO. (really, we DID!)

Oh yeah-and who are the writers? Have they in the past, or do they currently have, normal human interactions and conversations with other humans? It seems like all interaction between characters is unnatural, disjointed, and sometimes just plain weird (Betty’s pregnant stomach being touched by a stanger? Really? Someone wrote that into the script as a drunk come-on to Betty?)

Disclaimer: I haven’t watched seasons 1 and 2, but plan on it soon. That being said, I began watching from episode 1 this season due to all of my friends saying how great the show is. I admit I like the idea of the show, but the plots have stagnated since the first episode and the characters haven’t developed any since the first couple of episodes. And what’s with the abrupt ending of storylines? You would think the failed British reorganization of Sterling Cooper due to the lawnmower incident would at least be mentioned in later episodes. Wasn’t Sterling Cooper for sale a couple episodes ago? What happened there? President Kennedy plot was really cliche, as was Don banging the teacher. Please fire all of the writers and start over with fresh plots and more character development.

Wow- I am sad that Season 3 is finished on Sunday. What a waste! Only 13 episodes. I don’t think it’s coming back for Season 4. If it does, we will have to wait ONE year for it.

For all the people asking about Peggy’s baby: she doesn’t know what happened to it. The state took the baby away after it was born and it was adopted out. Back then, there were NO open adoptions and records were sealed.

Don’s affair with the slutty teacher was lame. The politician Betty likes is TOO OLD- why didn’t they made him some SUPER hot guy in his 40s to make Don jealous? Joan’s husband needs to commit suicide NOW!
Now that Kennedy is dead, I don’t think they have any plots left.

I can’t think of a single aspect of this show that hasn’t gone south this season. Taking Joanie and Sal out of the picture – why? More Jane, less Cosgrove? More Brits, less Creative team hijinks? Much more governmental politics and much less office politics – wha? Dropped or hole-ridden plotlines abound. The show formerly known as Mad Men shall be henceforce called Real Desperate Housewives of Westchester County.

The finale better be the shark messiah.

Season 1 was awesome. Season 2 started slow, but picked up around episode 5, season 3…well it stinks. Just as everyone says. I kept thinking it would turn the corner….but with only the season finally left…it’s a over. Tragic, since season 3 is usually the best a show ever gets….so I doubt I’ll even watch next year.

This year is absolutely horrible. I think the writers got drunk on their own success and decided to do artsy-fartsy crud that just isn’t working on the audience. One full episode of Betty in and out of drug induced sleep and looking at caterpillars, please! What happened to Peggy’s baby, and the young priest that had the hots for her? What happened to Peggy and Campbell, they wrote out the chemistry and they act as if nothing happened between them.
