Oprah’s cheap-ing out! According to Us Magazine:
Oprah Winfrey’s annual “Favorite Things” show (which airs Nov. 26) won’t include her usual pricey gifts. In light of the tight economy, the talk show host, 54, is instead giving away only affordable items. “They’re some of Oprah’s favorite things, but this time there’s a twist…they cost next to nothing!” says a statement released to Usmagazine.com by an Oprah Winfrey Show rep.
Is this a joke? In light of the “tight economy” Oprah is spending less money? She has like $900 billion dollars to her name. I think her face is on a coin somewhere in Egypt. And she’s crying the “I don’t have the money to spend” blues? GIVEMEABREAK. The average American has less money to spend this holiday season, which is exactly why she SHOULD be giving away expensive gifts this year… when we could use it most.
Take a look at some Oprah audience members
reacting to this year’s CHEAP FAVORITE THINGS:

She has been an over consuming (in every way) ego maniac for quite a few years now. She was a lot of fun to watch early on in Chicago on the ABC Good Morning Chicago, or whatever it was. It has just been obnoxious for the past few years. From overpriced things you “have to have”, to the party planners, etc. I read today where she is throwing one of the Inaugural balls in DC. If she really wanted to make a statement, they would serve simple food and give away every ticket and mingle with the real people. And I have no admiration for a woman who opens schools in Africa, when the public schools just a few miles from her opulent high rise are unsuitable for kids. Par for the course.
And I see Obama’s kids have passed on the public schools in DC for private, just like the private school the kids attend here in Chicago. These are not regular people, they are just as elite as all the other politicians. You’ve all been duped.

What most people do not know is that most, if not all, of the items given away on the Favorite Things show are DONATED by the companies they come from. There was a behind-the-scenes show about it maybe last year or the year before. The staff calls up the finalists for the list ask asks them if they have enough stock or vouchers for the product and have it there in time for the taping. Most companies will jump at the chance because of the enormous “free” advertising. I know this for a fact because my company is featured in the Dec “O” magazine as one of Oprah’s Favorite things, and we are getting MANY new customers.

Well said Jenny — and Anon, so what if the favorite things are free? Oprah has assloads of money. She could step up this year. I loathe her

I do admire Oprah but I’ve noticed that it always seems to be all about her – she constantly cuts guests off when they are answering questions to put forth her thoughts etc.
And if she has some much money, why doesn’t she put some of it to good use and spend it on projects that would benefit communities that are in need????
