Here’s your first look at Michael Phelps’ Sports Illustrated cover, shot on Sunday night in China. Sports Illustrated was trying to recreate their 1972 Mark Spitz cover.
Is it me, or is Phelps looking a little Downsy in the face? At first glance, I thought it was Screech.
I don’t like Michael Phelps. In fact, I inexplicably hate him. It has nothing to do with jealousy or the amount of calories he eats, or any of that crap. I just find him incredibly cocky, annoying, and dull. How is it fun watching a race when one person wins every single time?
And another thing, if one more person calls Phelps a “role model” I will throw up. How quickly we forget his underage DUI ARREST at age 19. Media brainwashing and manipulation at its best! It’s all about marketing and ratings.
Back to the topic at hand: my vote for best Sports Illustrated cover photo goes to Mark. At least from a distance, you can tell Mark has medals around his neck. Michael, on the other hand, looks like he stole a vest from Stevie Nicks’ closet circa 1981.
The issue will be available for sale tomorrow. Long live the pornstache!

I’m glad to read an article where someone is NOT kissing Michael Phelps’ ass!!! I am just so done hearing his name. He looks like he is missing a chromosome in that photo.

Well, he got his 8th. The media circus is finally over and done with for the most part. “Puhhlease”, it has nothing to do with jealousy or hate…it’s just overload. There’s no reason on earth to be jealous. Saying, “Jealousy! Pure Jealousy!” is just an obvious assumption people always make when they can’t think of anything else to say when people don’t idolize their heroes the same way. Too much of anything is always bad and becomes watered down in the end. We have definitely had too much of Michael Phelps. Does that make us “haters”? I don’t think so. Most people like mustard, but if I squirted a whole bottle down your throat at once, you’d probably vomit.

As an American abroad this season, it’s refreshing to NOT have to watch U.S. media coverage of the Olympics. To be sure, Phelps is phenomenal and the international press is justly tuned in to him and his history-making performance. Yet, there is a great balance offered over here, and a look at the NBC coverage has confirmed what I took for granted: American media is self-centered and shallow.
I’ll not be glad to return to American infotainment.

Michael Phelps is a good swimmer. Fine. He’s far from “the best olympian of all time.” Carl Lewis would have surpassed him in olympic medals if he could compete in 234234 events each year like Phelps the swimmer.
I am sick of Phelps. Bring on the Phelps backlash!

ya’ll are all haters!!!!! You know once in your life can you put swimming in the spot light okay seriously this is the only time every four years. FOUR YEARS!!!! That you hear shit about swimming. All you normally ever hear about it basketball and baseball and hockey and krap like that. So you all need to get over your jealousy, suck it up and get over the fact that it’s not all about basketball, baseball, and football anymore. Do you ever see something on t.v or on sports center that is about swimming…..no i didnt think so. btw they show plenty of the other sports obviously you guys dont have t.v.’s.
