FYI that is from the VERY old testament WAY before Jesus came. Jesus himself very clearly stated that HE is changing the old way. The new way is love and life.
People quoting the Bible on this already know that the New Testament provides the new way of life for those who follow him. This doesn’t do anything to change or prove what they believe according to the new testament. Not much of a ‘burn’ at all..
It’s not complicated people.
The moral code comes from the Old Testament Law – there were principles, and there were punishments and there was sacrifice.
Jesus fulfills the OT Law, meaning he bears the punishment on the cross and is the sacrifice again on the cross, so no more OT Punishments, or Sacrifices. Jesus covered those.
But the moral code still applies ( see Matt 5:18 )
So – lying about your sexual past to your husband is still morally wrong, but the bit about being stoned / paying silver, no longer applies.
So incest for example is still a sin, a practice however if looked at objectively on the same basis that homosexuality is today by secular law – ought to be legal.
The same argument extends to bestiality. ( a horse hardly consents to being ridden or a cow to being eaten )
Pedophilia is a natural occurring mis-function of sexual desire like homosexuality – Pedophilia while hated today was institutionally acceptable practice in Ancient Greece.
Jesus doesn’t want homosexuals stoned, ( Moses’ Law was of it’s times ie tailored to the needs of a nomadic people – see Matthew 19:8 ) but Jesus would still call Homosexuality a sin ie a “transgression of the Law”
I’m baffled with the laws of the bible and its followership. Does it mean there are other interpretations for such quotes or people just ignore them? Such laws are now seen as archaic. Who is right then, the bible or the followers?

I think that all of it is moot. The Pope has the ability to change any of it. He has already told us to go lax on somethings, that science has given us the green light for. Shellfish– no longer probably going to kill every person who eats it. The Jewish Kosher laws (Jesus was changing the Jewish laws too) were abandoned when cooking temperatures were easier to discern.
Science has given us good reason to avoid incest, due to the horrific mutations. Also there is good reason to avoid pedophilia as it hurts children, and damages them mentally.
Gay love however, helps two very confused and hurt individuals who are consenting adults. Gives them a sense of pride and fulfillment. Gives them something to look forward to in live besides living in shame. Let’s them be themselves and to love others.
Its not like we are asking naysayers to agree or enforce homosexuality, just leave us be in a country where we actually have a slim hope of a chance. Everything we have done wrong, is everything everyone does wrong. Still human. Just gay.

Christians forget often times that the rules and regulations of the Old Testament were what Jesus called “the Old covenant.” With his death, a new covenant came into place. We don’t have to follow those rules anymore. Not that it’s bad to follow them, we just don’t have to be killed for not being virgins.

I have my beliefs, or lack of in some cases, and I am relatively confident in those beliefs. I do realize that they are my beliefs and are fallible. I am human, after all. Thats in the old law when the jews had about 10,000 or so of different laws. Its unfair to quote that because its not held true once you get into the new testament. In the jewish law back then, you could be stoned if you walked more then 100 feet on the sabbath too… you need to look at the context of the time before you make your assumptions.

Thanks Mike, I honestly appreciate you pointing that out. Looks to me after some quick googling that that term has never been seen to imply homosexuality until recently. The original words were ambiguous and tended to be translated to mean male prostitutes.

Gay marriage and the fight for/against it have everything to do with the first amendment.

As for separation of church and state, it says nothing about the “separation of church and state.” And, even if you accept the principle of the separation of church and state being implied by the First Amendment, it’s implication is not there to protect Americans from religion, it is there to protect religious Americans from the government.
That verse is absolutely correct and was the law for Jews livings under the Law of the Old Testament. Christians are no longer under the Law of the Old Testament, that law having been fulfilled. This is why Christians don’t sacrifice lambs and bulls. What you want is something from the New Testament which Christians are bound to observe and obey. Something like Romans 1:26,27 “Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. It would be more correct to say that our country was founded on philosophy, especially the thoughts of John Locke. He advocated classical liberalism, a dedication to securing the private rights of all citizens. Citizens have natural, unalienable rights which the government should act to secure. This country was founded on the principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Because we live in a fallen world, not every woman is going to be able to bear children and God knows that. It’s not commanded that woman give birth. However, if you look at recent statistics, developed nations are starting to experience low birth rates among their populations. Gay marriage can’t offer a solution for that and that’s one of the main reason for marriage, to pro-create.

Second of all, gay marriage being legalized isn’t going to cause any more problems that legalizing marriage between whites and blacks. Did some people hate it when it first happened? Sure. Of course. Gay marriage would be similar. It has already been legalized in 6 states now (I think that’s what we’re up to – correct me if I’m forgetting one)and there’s no major issues there. And more and more states are considering it. Will it take time to get it legalized everywhere? Sure, but it WILL be legalized everywhere eventually, so start getting used to the idea. There will be some problems along the way, but in the end, we will all be better for it.
And third of all….Mike…you are what some of us like to call…well…a Jesus Crispie…or…a Bible Thumper…or…well, you get the point. The fact is that you are one, and you will not be changed by these people constantly giving you what they deem good reason to. Nor will you change by them providing ample biblical passages to negate your argument, which I’m sure many of us can do. And that’s ok. You don’t have to change. And all of you other people, you feel very strongly that Mike is wrong (and for the record, I agree with you on that one), but you’re not going to change him by giving all of the obvious arguments for your cause, so hopefully you’re not trying to. Essentially, the point I’m trying to get across to you is this. People are not changed by arguments online. People are changed by not only thorough personal reflection, but through life experiences, and unfortunately, not all of us have had the experiences yet that allow us to abandon the belief that things are wrong when they’re not,such as sexual preference, religous preference, or even political beliefs.
You won’t be changing anyone on this website. If you want to try, suggest a book to read, an event to attend and experience, a person meeting to discuss your feelings about things. But for the love of god, can we just post some more fucking funny signs or something?

I for one don’t have a problem with gay marriage or religion. It’s extremists that bug me. I don’t force my beliefs or thoughts on you, so please treat me with the same respect. Religion can be beautiful and bring people together in fulfilling and loving communities. But it can also be used as an excuse (or a weapon) against the rest of the world by those who are simply too narrow minded or hate filled to listen to reason.

The sign grossly misrepresents the actual text. obviously marriges were conducted a bit differently in those days but IF the girl and/or her parents lied about her virginity the girl was put to death as punishment IF they got caught by the husband and he complained to a judge. It had nothing to do with validity of the marrige. Also notice if he was wrong about it “She shall continue to be his wife; he must not divorce her as long as he lives.”

We’ve had same sex marriage here in Canada for many years now and I can assure you that after it became legal people started to realize that their life hadn’t changed, their marriage wasn’t affected in any way, in fact the only thing that has changed is that gay couples are now treated equally under the law, everything else has continued same as ever, its really not an issue any more except for the die hard anti-gay crowd. We have achieved legal equality here in Canada but there’s still a long way to go in achieving social equality, there are still way too many gaybashings for example and the anti-gay crowd still makes lots of noise around Gay Pride events or other LGBT festivals. I expect that will take longer to change but at least we have legal equality and are no longer second class citizens here. I was always taught that the US valued freedom more than any other country yet when it comes to the freedom to live your life as yourself to the best of your ability it seems to be sorely lacking these days and the label “Land of the free” no longer applies to the US, I can tell you you how wonderful it feels to be free to be myself here in Canada, its made me much more patriotic and proud to be Canadian, I wish our American friends could one day soon experience the same wonderful feeling of freedom for all its citizens.

It’s not complicated people.
The moral code comes from the Old Testament Law – there were principles, and there were punishments and there was sacrifice.
Jesus fulfills the OT Law, meaning he bears the punishment on the cross and is the sacrifice again on the cross, so no more OT Punishments, or Sacrifices. Jesus covered those.
But the moral code still applies ( see Matt 5:18 )
So – lying about your sexual past to your husband is still morally wrong, but the bit about being stoned / paying silver, no longer applies.
So incest for example is still a sin, a practice however if looked at objectively on the same basis that homosexuality is today by secular law – ought to be legal.
The same argument extends to bestiality. ( a horse hardly consents to being ridden or a cow to being eaten )
Pedophilia is a natural occurring mis-function of sexual desire like homosexuality – Pedophilia while hated today was institutionally acceptable practice in Ancient Greece.
Jesus doesn’t want homosexuals stoned, ( Moses’ Law was of it’s times ie tailored to the needs of a nomadic people – see Matthew 19:8 ) but Jesus would still call Homosexuality a sin ie a “transgression of the Law”

I think that all of it is moot. The Pope has the ability to change any of it. He has already told us to go lax on somethings, that science has given us the green light for. Shellfish– no longer probably going to kill every person who eats it. The Jewish Kosher laws (Jesus was changing the Jewish laws too) were abandoned when cooking temperatures were easier to discern.
Science has given us good reason to avoid incest, due to the horrific mutations. Also there is good reason to avoid pedophilia as it hurts children, and damages them mentally.
Gay love however, helps two very confused and hurt individuals who are consenting adults. Gives them a sense of pride and fulfillment. Gives them something to look forward to in live besides living in shame. Let’s them be themselves and to love others.
Its not like we are asking naysayers to agree or enforce homosexuality, just leave us be in a country where we actually have a slim hope of a chance. Everything we have done wrong, is everything everyone does wrong. Still human. Just gay.
Don’t stereotype every gay person you see. Don’t you dare lump me into that crowd. I’m me first. I’m just a person that wants to see my husband if I’m ever rushed to the hospital, going to die. Christians forget often times that the rules and regulations of the Old Testament were what Jesus called “the Old covenant.” With his death, a new covenant came into place. We don’t have to follow those rules anymore. Not that it’s bad to follow them, we just don’t have to be killed for not being virgins.

I have my beliefs, or lack of in some cases, and I am relatively confident in those beliefs. I do realize that they are my beliefs and are fallible. I am human, after all. It seems people, nowadays, waste so much time simply trying to prove that their point of view (whatever it may be)is the only point of view. Basically, it always boils down to, “You’re wrong, unless you agree with me.” I sometimes see the underlying venom in these posts, generally speaking–not just here–and it saddens me. Thats in the old law when the jews had about 10,000 or so of different laws. Its unfair to quote that because its not held true once you get into the new testament. In the jewish law back then, you could be stoned if you walked more then 100 feet on the sabbath too… you need to look at the context of the time before you make your assumptions.

If the Old Testament is void, stop quoting Leviticus and Deuteronomy for anti-gay justification.
Show me anywhere in the New Testament that says homosexuality is bad, and I’ll at least acknowledge that your personal beliefs and fantasies give you a reason to be prejudiced assholes. Gay marriage and the fight for/against it have everything to do with the first amendment.
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…” as Jefferson wrote the Constitution and made famous the phrase “separation of church and state” based upon this line, it should be understood that as a religious ceremony gay marriage can be banned from the church, but as a government document, a marriage certificate legally should not be denied homosexuals.

Tristan and Seriously: Because this country was founded on Biblical principles, (based upon the teachings from the Bible) it really shouldn’t be an argument.
We can agree, that the Bible says its a sin to be a homosexual, correct? That being said, gay marriage wouldn’t become law or allowed in this country. (See 1st statement)
As for separation of church and state, it says nothing about the “separation of church and state.” And, even if you accept the principle of the separation of church and state being implied by the First Amendment, it’s implication is not there to protect Americans from religion, it is there to protect religious Americans from the government.

That verse is absolutely correct and was the law for Jews livings under the Law of the Old Testament. Christians are no longer under the Law of the Old Testament, that law having been fulfilled. This is why Christians don’t sacrifice lambs and bulls. What you want is something from the New Testament which Christians are bound to observe and obey. Something like Romans 1:26,27 “Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. I identify myself as queer- because I’m asexual. No, I cannot reproduce with myself. But I have no sex drive, and no desire to have sex. Yes, I have gone to the doctor, and my hormones are perfectly in balance. I was never molested/raped/abused as a child. I’m perfectly normal- I just don’t want sex. I love hugging, cuddling, and even platonic kisses (e.g. pecks on my cheek). So, what do ya’ll think of this? If you need more information on this before giving me your answer, look at AVEN. Mike: I don’t think it’s correct to say that our country was founded on Biblical principles. Government was supposed to be precisely free of religion. It would be more correct to say that our country was founded on philosophy, especially the thoughts of John Locke. He advocated classical liberalism, a dedication to securing the private rights of all citizens. Citizens have natural, unalienable rights which the government should act to secure. This country was founded on the principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Sounds like government should allow gay marriage, actually.
And as for the Bible, it is full of historical, scientific, chronological, and moral inaccuracies. The Bible as a whole is generally unreliable. We should not accept anything the Bible says simply because it says so.
What proof is there that gay marriage is bad in any way? As a matter of the importance of freedom, no one should oppose it.

Because we live in a fallen world, not every woman is going to be able to bear children and God knows that. It’s not commanded that woman give birth. However, if you look at recent statistics, developed nations are starting to experience low birth rates among their populations. Just replying, Mike, no, no one has ever forced me to sleep with them. But it’s come pretty close. Once I dated a guy who wanted me to give him a hand job. When I refused, he called me a whore, then proceeded to feel me up to discover what turned me on. Unfortunately for him, I proved unresponsive, and never talked to him again.

First of all, the sign is hilarious…really, it is, regardless of whether you think it’s appropriate to use old testament arguments for either side here. Still funny (which I think was the point of posting it on this website).
Second of all, gay marriage being legalized isn’t going to cause any more problems that legalizing marriage between whites and blacks. Did some people hate it when it first happened? Sure. Of course. But has it not become a more acceptable thing today? Sure. And the people who still have a problem with it can continue to live in their bigoted little worlds where they’re miserable about everything and it won’t affect the rest of us. Gay marriage would be similar. It has already been legalized in 6 states now (I think that’s what we’re up to – correct me if I’m forgetting one)and there’s no major issues there. And more and more states are considering it. Will it take time to get it legalized everywhere? Sure, but it WILL be legalized everywhere eventually, so start getting used to the idea. There will be some problems along the way, but in the end, we will all be better for it.
And third of all….Mike…you are what some of us like to call…well…a Jesus Crispie…or…a Bible Thumper…or…well, you get the point. The fact is that you are one, and you will not be changed by these people constantly giving you what they deem good reason to. Nor will you change by them providing ample biblical passages to negate your argument, which I’m sure many of us can do. And that’s ok. You don’t have to change. And all of you other people, you feel very strongly that Mike is wrong (and for the record, I agree with you on that one), but you’re not going to change him by giving all of the obvious arguments for your cause, so hopefully you’re not trying to. The sign grossly misrepresents the actual text. obviously marriges were conducted a bit differently in those days but IF the girl and/or her parents lied about her virginity the girl was put to death as punishment IF they got caught by the husband and he complained to a judge. It had nothing to do with validity of the marrige. Also notice if he was wrong about it “She shall continue to be his wife; he must not divorce her as long as he lives.”
Oddly enough, this very passage is brought to life (kind of) in Shakespear’s “Much Ado About Nothing.” If you don’t know what I’m talking about then read the play, or rent the version with Denzel Washington. It’s one of my favorites.

God doesn’t like Gays? God loves everyone. Have you not read the New Testament and Christ’s teachings? He never said anything about homosexuality.
And Mike, your point about gay couples not being able to bear children is completely ridiculous. What about barren couples? Should they not be allowed to marry because they can’t have children? Or straight couples who don’t want to have children?
Anyone who thinks the creator of this entire universe; every little bit and piece and you and myself.. really cares about who you love; is insane. It is two consenting adults. Their relationship is none of your business. As is your relationship none of yours. So keep your nose out of it. And if you really think God is going to smite a country down just because it’s people accept homosexuality; you need a serious history lesson. And a sanity lesson, but that’s another story.

I agree that God loves his people/loves this earth…because “For God so loved the world that He gave His only beggotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”John 3:16. Now, I do agree, however, that Jesus never mentions homosexuals outright, but he does mention the constitution of marriage…In Matthew 19:4 He says, “Have you not read that He made them male and female, and said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh?”…And even when he talks about divorce he still mentions husbands and wives…His whole reason for making a man and a woman was for procreation…and over and over He tells them to procreate and multiply on the earth…So, for this reason besides the fact that He made ‘Adam’ and ‘Eve’ and NOT ‘Adam’ and ‘Steve’ leads me to believe Him and His word that He meant for man and woman to be together. You cannot pick apart the bible and
pick and choose what you want to make a point…You either believe the whole bible is God-Breathed (1Timothy3:16) or you don’t believe any of it.

Really people? First, I think the sign was to illustrate a point and not necessarily meant to reflect absolute accuracy. I love how the OT was magically updated by Jesus so no one appeared to be a total douche in their wrath.
Second- do we forget that our founding fathers specifcally andated that there be separation between church and state? I don’t know why Christians continue to try and push religion on the State.
Third- come on people-why do we argue with these people as though they might magically change their minds and suddenly see life through a non-religious lense? It doesn’t happen, period. You are wasting your breath.

We’ve had same sex marriage here in Canada for many years now and I can assure you that after it became legal people started to realize that their life hadn’t changed, their marriage wasn’t affected in any way, in fact the only thing that has changed is that gay couples are now treated equally under the law, everything else has continued same as ever, its really not an issue any more except for the die hard anti-gay crowd. We have achieved legal equality here in Canada but there’s still a long way to go in achieving social equality, there are still way too many gaybashings for example and the anti-gay crowd still makes lots of noise around Gay Pride events or other LGBT festivals. I expect that will take longer to change but at least we have legal equality and are no longer second class citizens here. I was always taught that the US valued freedom more than any other country yet when it comes to the freedom to live your life as yourself to the best of your ability it seems to be sorely lacking these days and the label “Land of the free” no longer applies to the US, I can tell you you how wonderful it feels to be free to be myself here in Canada, its made me much more patriotic and proud to be Canadian, I wish our American friends could one day soon experience the same wonderful feeling of freedom for all its citizens.

Find a book on demons and deliverance and compare it to the symptoms of psychological disorders and you’ll find an undeniable connection.
Things of the Bible are coming to pass. This is not about religion…it’s about salvation through Jesus Christ. Mark 13:7 “And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet.” 911…Iraq…the war going on still…proves this to be right. It’s not about being a goody two shoes either. Isaiah 64:6 “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”
Accept Christ today and be saved. Accept him with your heart and by faith so that you won’t be swept away by false doctrines and leaders.
